Garlic bread

Free Garlic bread

The garlic bread was very good. The bread was soft and the garlic butter spread on it was tasty. However, when Martini asked if we could have another basket of bread after we finished ours, the waiter said “of course” but never ended up giving us one. We didn’t bother asking again since we were well into our meal already.

Empanadas

Empanadas

The empanadas were up to regular standards. I always look forward to a crispy shell on an empanada and these were crispy. Beef inside was good, although I didn’t like the random bits of cartilage(?) that I bit into a few times. The sauce it came with is mojo sauce, very citirusy, vinegary, and sour. I was not into it.

Fried Yucca

Fried Yucca

The Yuca Fritas were interesting. I’ve never had them fried before. The outside was nicely crispy and the inside was piping hot & soft. Great change from the usual french fries but it came with the same sauce, again, and I wish there was a different type of sauce to enjoy these with. Even ketchup would have been better (I know, I know). Oh also, yucca is kinda stringy so if you’ve never had it before, be prepared for a few stringy pieces in there.

Garlic roasted chicken

Garlic roasted chicken

I honestly didn’t like the garlic chicken at all. Why would you call something garlic chicken and not have it taste of garlic? My guess is all of the garlic lies in the sauce at the bottom of the plate, but to me it didn’t taste like garlic at all…it tasted more like cirtus and vinegar only. Perhaps if the chicken was at least very moist, I wouldn’t mind what kind of seasoning or sauce it came with, but it wasn’t that tender either.

Beans and rice

Beans and rice

The funny thing is, I ended up eating mostly rice with the beans. When I did eat the chicken, I preferred it drenched in the beans. I’ve never had mojo sauce before so I can’t tell if I just don’t like mojo sauce at all or perhaps I am not a fan of Bella Cuba’s sauce in particular. The chicken entree might have been the wrong one for me to try. Martini enjoyed it, but it made me not so excited to go back to Bella Cuba. I would be willing to try something else though. 🙂
