{February 12, 2013} Kimchi: As soon as we stepped into Mil Jugos, we found the place to be very welcoming. We’ve never had Venezuelan food before, but going to Mil Jugos was a great decision. It was fairly empty but it was a weekday late afternoon. The metered parking is a pain since there are barely any…I suppose you would park in the parking structure on a busier day.
Kimchi: Here is the menu for reference.
Kimchi: Their juice tastes very fresh, sweet, and yummy. It’s interesting that they call it “juice” though, because it had an icy consistency like a smoothie. Not a problem with me since I like smoothies, but I can see why people expecting juice would expect…juice.
Kimchi: The asado arepa was good but a little bit plain for our tastes. It was wonderful paired with their green sauce cilantro sauce though! We kept squeezing more and more of the sauce onto our plates. The arepas are indeed smaller than expected.
Kimchi: We enjoyed pabellon arepa more since it had beans and grated cheese as well. The arepas are so soft and creamy!
Kimchi: Ah yes, the star of the show. We ordered cheese (queso) cachapa, but we were served a cheese cachapa with meat inside. Oh well. We didn’t say anything to them and we didn’t mind either (although meat is a little more expensive). We loved loved loved this dish. The Venezuelan pancake is so sweet, creamy, soft, and corny, pairing wonderfully with the melty cheese and soft meat.
Kimchi: The empanada was surprisingly poofy. Martini poked it to discover it was so airy inside. The pastry outside tasted wonderfully crispy and was the star of the empanada. The chicken was OK and perhaps we should have ordered chicken & cheese inside instead. But the good thing about that is the fact that it doesn’t mask or overpower the wonderful pastry part at all.
Kimchi: We had a sweet lady who came over twice to check up on us if we wanted to order more. I believe she was the chef? Either way, I liked her…not sure what the other ladies are like. Service seems like it could be very slow even with no other customers. We just went up to the counter to pay ourselves. Otherwise, we really like this place, and it was a great first visit. If you love sweet and savory dishes, these entrees are perfect.
