Martini and I met up with two friends to have dinner at Sushi Sho Japanese Restaurant. Their restaurant doesn’t open until 5pm, but that doesn’t bother us because we usually eat out for dinner anyway since we are never out of the house early enough… Even though it was a Saturday, it was rather empty, but it might have been because we came close to the opening (5pm) of the store.

Chirashi Bowl

Chirashi Bowl

I had the Chirashi Bowl and was very happy with it’s beautiful presentation! I was curious what “chirashi” means in Japanese, and thanks to the wonders of Wikipedia, I found that it means a “scattered bowl” which basically has an assortment of sashimi and rice in a bowl. This bowl was about $16 so it wasn’t the cheapest item, but it was a good deal for a nice assortment of fish. It was delicious, although I wish they would put in more rice. It may look like a lot, but it was really only a thin layer of rice.

Have you ever eaten eel before? It’s funny because I never really considered eels as a type of “fish” because they are such WEIRD and creepy looking creatures. But yes, it dawned on me recently that they are indeed a type of fish. The revelation came upon me when I was eating it and found some unpleasant, prickly bones in my mouth. Ever since my mom choked on a fish bone one time and hacked it up (with blood and all), I’ve been so traumatized about choking on a bone.

Anyway… this meal comes with miso soup and salad as well.

Combination Dinner

Combination Dinner

Martini got the combination dinner, which was under $12. He got to pick the two main dishes (he picked short ribs and spicy tuna). It also came with half an orange (dessert?), a few pieces of steamed veggies, miso soup, rice, and salad. The ribs were a nice addition to his meal because it sort of makes his meal feel a little more complete and “meatier.” Ha, ha.

Martini: I was actually jealous of Kimchi’s Chirashi bowl [Kimchi: he kept staring at my bowl!!!], the assortment of fish looked very appetizing compared to my plate of ribs, but at the time I was craving some BBQ meat.  Although getting it here was probably not the best place. I tried the octopus in Chirashi bowl and it was really chewy and tasty, I would definitely try it again. Overall, the bowl of fish was exactly what I’ve been craving – plenty of fish and a little bit of rice. I wish I got the bowl instead.

It was a pretty nice dinner. We weren’t stuffed (well, we could always have ordered more), but it was satisfying since I hadn’t had sushi in a while.
